EBENEZER PLACE – Goodman, Mississippi

While Samuel was offering the sacrifice, the Philistines came within range to fight Israel. Just then GOD thundered, a huge thunderclap exploding among the Philistines. They panicked—mass confusion!—and ran helter-skelter from Israel. Israel poured out of Mizpah and gave chase, killing Philistines right and left, to a point just beyond Beth Car. Samuel took a single rock and set it upright between Mizpah and Shen. He named it “Ebenezer” (Rock of Help), saying, “This marks the place where GOD helped us.” (I Samuel 7:12-14 The Message)

God gave the Israelites victory over the Philistines. To commemorate the victorious battle, Samuel set up a marker-stone, naming it “Stone of Help,” and thereby the site became identified with the stone and with the place where God’s miraculous help aided them in their victory over the Philistines. The stone, standing upright, was called “Ebenezer,” and the site naturally took on that name as well.

WEB-wounded-rockLiterally speaking, an Ebenezer is a “stone of help,” or a reminder of God’s Real, Holy Presence and Divine aid. Spiritually and theologically speaking, an Ebenezer can be nearly anything that reminds us of God’s presence and help: the Bible, the Sacramental Elements, a cross, a picture, a fellow believer, a hymn. Those things which serve as reminders of God’s love, God’s Real Presence, and God’s assistance are “Ebenezers.”

Ebenezer Place is so named as a means of acknowledging the help that God has given to many men, NOW and in the FUTURE. The vision for Ebenezer Place is that men will have a safe place where they can come and find the healing they seek.

Ebenezer Place is 21.6 acres. There are two cabins, a bunkhouse a large outside deck, a pond, and lots of potential for future development. We believe God’s hand is on the whole process. The possibility for greater outreach to men is available to us through the development of Ebenezer Place.

We believe Ebenezer Place has been given to us by God to expand His Kingdom. We have seen Jesus Christ touch the hearts of men here and bring restoration to their lives. Ebenezer Place is a place of help for men
